About us

John Maloney

Company Director
John Maloney is our founder and one of our two company directors. His journey began in the late 1970s when he worked as the head doorman at the famous Blitz nightclub in London. He was then approached to become a film extra, and his first job in the TV world was on The Sweeney in 1978. He went on to play one of Ming's guards in the film Flash Gordon, which was shot in 1979. In 1982, he was an extra in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

In 1982, John worked as an extra on a film called Britannia Hospital. During this time, a location manager asked him and a small group of other film extras to help save some space for film trucks on a residential street in London. They used black bin bags filled with rubbish to secure the spaces and waited until the trucks arrived. Once the trucks turned up, the Location Manager asked them to watch them as the backs were open, exposing expensive equipment. This job at Britannia Hospital was where security in the film industry was born. The location manager would use John and the group to reserve spaces, secure vehicles, look after valuable equipment, and even provide security for accountants carrying cash and actors.

John's extensive career has enabled him to gain experience and understanding in almost all aspects of the industry. His interpersonal skills secured him jobs on productions such as A Dry White Season (1989), where he was Marlon Brando's security guard, before later managing unit security on films like Snatch (1999). Having entered the industry before the introduction of unit managers, John had to learn how to manage a unit base while on the job, dealing with issues such as parking technical vehicles without reservations for the entire unit, often cooperating with residents, and even organising moving entire unit bases to different locations.

Ben Maloney

Company Director
Ben Maloney began his career in 2002, working on productions such as Blackball, Dead Fish, Starter For 10, St.Trinians (2007), and St Trinians 2 (2009). In addition to his work in security in the film and TV industry, he specialised in close protection and toured with the pop group Ndubz. He later built a client base of high-profile celebrities.

In 2010, Ben joined forces with his father, John, to co-found Maloney & Associates, bringing fresh ideas and innovation to the company. He gained a reputation for his team management skills and became a highly sought-after lead man, establishing himself as one of the best in the business.

Ben's hands-on approach to leading security teams has allowed him to coordinate large-scale security projects nationwide. His ability to adapt, navigate, and assemble multiple teams to high standards has driven the company forward.
